Attending a figure drawing class for the fall reawakened my interest in the body. These humans! So strange and beautiful. All of them, no matter what – no matter the age, color, tautness or looseness of skin. I love them. And workng within a time frame, it’s a constant battle. I hate them, I love them, I struggle with each line and my love for it. And the struggle to let go and just see. Let go of whether or not I feel that I’m any good. I know I do some work that I like, some that others like. Some that get no reaction. What matters here is that we are LOOKING. And falling into that trance of love that comes when we look deeply. I pull my hair. I turn away. I sigh. I change my footing. I change my pencil. I wonder why I can suddenly see how it goes, when 10 minutes ago I drifted over these details. ….
